Movember – embrace your ’70s stach! Wordless Wednesday

Share Button

Yesterday was November 1st and unless you live under a rock you’re seeing the word Movember everywhere. Being the nosy Parker I am I began searching Movember and have made a discovery which hits close to home.

Firstly, my info is from a great Canadian site, Movember.ca

“During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer.”

Did you know that 1 in 7 men will develop prostate cancer in his lifetime????

That number is huge, prostate cancer is the #1 cancer to affect Canadian men and yet so few men or their families know about the risks of developing the disease. My father certainly didn’t until after over 25 years without seeing a doctor he went and had a “routine” check up. Imagine his surprise and dismay when this visit included a prostate check. We didn’t think much of the visit, we figured he would have to have some issues with his cholesterol because of unhealthy diet but we would never have imagined what came next.

My Dad had 13 major issues, which varied from cholesterol, diabetes all the way to prostate cancer.

I cannot even describe how it felt to hear my Mum say those words to me over the phone.

After many appointments, tests and finally a surgery I am so happy to announce that my Dad is cancer free!!!

Are the men in your lives cancer free? Are they sure?

I support MOVEMBER!

Good for you for putting the world out. And although you make that mustache look good, you can shave it in December.

So nice to find a fellow Christian in recovery! Such a reciprocal relationship, don’t you think?!
I’ve been hearing about no-shave November around here; even some of the ladies are talking it up. I, myself, am opting out, but I will spread the word about the Movember movement
