Watermelon Lemonade – A Classic Drink Recipe with a Spin

We are hosting an after school get together today with some fabulous ladies and their kiddos. Each of my guests will bring a snack to make it easy to satisfy the hunger of these voracious children and I am concocting a delicious mocktail to accompany the buffet.

I’m happy to share my take on a classic drink recipe with you all.

Watermelon Lemonade watermelon-lemonade

Serves 10

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar or mild honey
  • 5 cups cubed and seeded watermelon
  • 3/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup of ice

Preparation

  • In heatproof measuring cup, whisk 1 cup boiling water with sugar until dissolved.
  • In blender, blend watermelon with lemon juice until smooth.
  • Strain into serving pitcher (can be quite frothy and need straining more than once) and stir in sugar syrup.
  • Pour into glasses over ice and garnish with watermelon wedges.

Additional information :

Variations
Sparkling Watermelon Lemonade: Fill highball glass with ice. Add 3/4 cup Watermelon Lemonade. Top with 1/2 oz soda water; stir just to combine. Makes 1 serving.
