Stop the presses, it’s a BIG day here on SoberJulie.com…my Mum actually left a comment on my blog last night!!! Yes folks after 3 years of blogging and having her phone me to tell me what she thinks of the blog posts she’s read…she actually took the step to leave a comment on the internet!!!
Let me put this into perspective for you, my Mum is an amazing lady and very successful in many areas but technology isn’t one of them. This is the woman who took years to get comfy with a TV converter, balked at the idea of a microwave (fearing she’d start a fire) and up until now in her later years chose a pen and sticky notes to remind herself of anything.
Nay to the cellphone, my Mum will carry a quarter! Pish-posh to emailing friends and family in the UK she owns a perfectly good rotary dial phone!!
Because my Mum now reads my blog I have to admit that’s a bit of an exaggeration, my Dad loves technology and would never live with a rotary dial phone these days…
This woman may not be tech-savvy but oh she gets things done. I have no idea how she does it but anytime in my life when I’ve turned to my Mum for help she makes things happen. From doctors appointments, finding the perfect wedding hall, to being by my side during labor I can turn to my Mum.
Making Up for Mom Humour on my Blog
Why am I gushing about my Mum if Mother’s Day has already passed? Possibly to make up for any tongue-in-cheek comments I may have made about her on this blog. I may have referred to her blue sense of humour, her tendency to break into song at any moment or her “In church or in chapel let it rattle” motto for breaking wind….
It’s also possible that my brain is busting with ideas I can now share with you all, examples of the character that is my Mum for future blog fodder.
I know I could easily write a whole post sharing photos of my Mum using my Father’s FB page and writing very strange comments on people’s walls….oh yeah I love reading those!!
Hey Mum, how would you like to do a weekly column here, sharing some of your wacky, inappropriate humour and British wit with the world? (going for Brownie points here)
So yes, today is a big day. My heart leapt in a very good way when I saw my Mum’s email address in my comment cue…something tells me I’m going to be seeing loads of those comments from now on….
Jules, That picture of your Mom and Dad looks like Ami and you (male version of course) sitting there. Holy Crap! And yes I do remember your Mom’s British Wit. I think she should definately post it on your blog. LOL
hahah oh Dar of anyone you’d understand this blog post! After 17 years of living a few doors up how could you not?
Jewels! You are funny! Cannot wait until June, 2013, when we ALL get together. Just imagine once you teach me this techie thingie! So glad you received my lengthy generosity thing about you, CAA and Payless. Still living the Dream! Loving Chicken Farmer’s – Where is the Beef, etc? Love you All. Mum. X.

So just came back from Joe and Monica’s home. What a beautiful haircut he gave me. I look 50 years younger. Your Dad will not just recognize ME! Still in the middle of packing. Cannot wait to use your washing machine – with me in it! Do they still sell Geritol to give more energy to the old folk? I am still walking around – proudly – in my Julie, CAA, Payless Shoes and sunglasses. Yep! (in the apartment). Dad still looking at Flight Radar, looking at the planes coming in. I am watching the birds and hope they come with us when they move! Mum.
ps: what is our URL?
Mum you can phone me still, we don’t have to have a conversation on here ;) The url is only if you have your own website, it’s the thing you type into the line at the top like mine is https://www.soberjulie.com.
Congrats Julie, I know how much it means to you….and kudos to mom for making onto the internet!!
Yeah`for your mom, I still use sticky notes too! I am more organized with those and get more done than with my laptop or phone and would love some Brit humor on a blog I love Little Britian and Cori and a few others, your mom sounds like a wonderful woman :)
Watch out Doris she’s coming!!!
I dont comment often but this one had me laughing , my mom is the same the but this year she learned how to use facebook on an ipad and now chats with relatives and even posts pic, this is from someone who still cant figure out her tv remote lol but they do surprise you from time to time and get all tech savvy and your mom sounds very funny , hey you should try and get her to be a guest blogger ,
That’s exactly what I’m going to do Stacey, I may even do it on video b/c she’s so funny…..even when she doesn’t mean to be. Sounds like our Mum’s would get along
Have a wonderful weekend All. Do not forget clean hankies. Oh yes, clean undies in case you get run over by a bus – or a deer! Night you all.
Your Mum sounds like quite the character, I just love her comments they are priceless. I bet now that she has posted once she’ll be a regular. I agree with Doris, it would be great to have some Brit humor…:)
oh Deb she’s on a roll for sure….the comments keep coming
Do not forget FEBREVE!
I only met your Mum once, but loved her instantly! She’s a gem! Send Rosie my hugs, please!
I don’t know what I’d do if my mom comment on my blog. I think she knows it exists but I don’t know if she reads it on a regular basis, I’d love for your mom to write tho!! That would be fun!!
Nearly 3 days to go! Are you ready? We will be! Bring out the new light weight vac, also cleaning rags – and wave us in, eh? Oh! Please do not forget a chicken farmers recipe. (where is the beef?) Looking forward to Sydney’s help Wed, 4pm. Mum.
