Dragon Fruit Smoothie

Share Button

This week’s Mocktail is one which I took a chance on, this was my first time every purchasing this fruit but in the end after some trials my Dragon Fruit Smoothie is delicious and super-simple!

Dragon Fruit has always caught my eye in a grocery store. Its beautiful, vibrant colour has always seemed to clash with its spiked, leathery skin. When I looked at it I had no idea how it tasted but finally took the leap and bought some last week after researching its uses.

Dragon Fruit Smoothie fruits

Dragon Fruit is grown in Southeast Asia, Mexico, Central and South America and Israel. It’s a type of cactus, and the fruit comes in 3 colors: 2 have pink skin, but with either white or red flesh, while another type is yellow with white flesh. Dragon fruit is low in calories and offers numerous nutrients, including Vitamin C, phosphorus, calcium, plus fiber and antioxidants.

Dragon fruit tastes as wonderful as it looks! – sweet and crunchy, with a flavor that’s like a cross between kiwi and pear.

I have made a dragon fruit recipe myself before and thoroughly enjoyed it. That’s an interesting twist with the strawberries and honey, I’m going to give it a try !

I just made this and it turned out beautifully, but I must say, the honey was not necessary as the strawberries and banana add more than enough sweetness, at least in my opinion. Make sure you taste it before adding any sort of sweetener. I was not in the mood for a sugar shock this morning.
