As I told you almost a month ago, I’ve been using a Windows Phone for 1 month as a part of the #SummerSwitch program from Microsoft Canada. My good friend Chris from Canadian Dad nominated me to participate and I was quite uncertain about giving up my beloved iPhone entirely for a month.
In the end I was unable to rely upon the Windows Phone entirely for my social media needs, I’ll explain that in a bit. Right now allow me to tell you what I DO like about the Nokia Lumina 920 Windows Phone.
The Screen Size
The phone is larger than my iPhone 4, it has a 4.5’’ PureMotion HD+ display capable of 1280 x 768 pixels. I’m not a techy so if you’d like more technical info you can find it on the Rogers website HERE. I love that the screen is larger so I can see easier, but the downfall is that it’s more difficult to use with one of my small hands.
Tiles
On the main screen you have the ability to set up the apps you regularly use in the Tiles. This makes seeing updates simple and allows me to access everything immediately.
Battery Life
This phone has GREAT battery life, I didn’t once land in a spot where it died. Admittedly I wasn’t using it exclusively for hours at a time but I was impressed.
Camera
I wrote the technical details within my last post so suffice it to say I didn’t want to like the camera on this phone better than my iPhone 4 but oh yes I did!
The ability to set your exposure and other settings is wonderful. Each of these photos are taken directly from the phone without editing, although there are some fun editing options available. The camera on the Windows Phone is by far the BEST camera on a cell phone I’ve tried to date!
I adore the camera on the Windows Phone but unfortunately it’s not enough for me to switch fully at this time.
Why I Can’t Switch to Windows Phone
As a blogger I use my phone to interact online via social media daily. With the Windows Phone the 3rd party apps are pretty good but not enough for me to keep up my usual interaction.
There is not an app where I can efficiently manage my Facebook page which for me is a biggie. I’ve been unable to find one that allows me to add photos, reply or sufficiently access features of my FB page as of today.
The lack of Instagram is killing me! Oh how I wish Instagram was available for this phone….
The reception on this network was not as strong as my current provider. This to me is a killer, we spend most of our summer in Muskoka right now and my current provider’s reception was far superior to Rogers which means I simply cannot switch.
This is a wonderful phone which I WISH I could switch to…but as of today there aren’t the appropriate apps which can provide the functionality I need.
Disclosure: I am a part of the #SummerSwitch program and was provided a phone free of charge to share my opinions. I am under no obligation to give a positive review.
I saw this post on triberr with just the headline and I thought we’ll I wonder if this is a true review or just promotional content. I have heard a lot about this phone and I need to switch and buy some new gadgets for family members. Then I read through and that wow this seems honest. I admittedly was a tiny bit jaded this morning logging on with my iPhone. I was thinking well I wonder if social media and blogging might have hit tipping point so to speak. Then I read through the whole review and was extremely impressed by your honesty. Thank you for an honest review. This was exactly what I needed to read today. You are absolutely clear that this camera is amazing but the lack of some key apps and spotty reception would kill it as an option for me. Thanks so much Julie! This actually made my morning! It could still be an okay phone for my husband or my daughter so I could still buy one. But there’s no way I could use it because I make my living on social media. If I can’t manage my client’s facebook page because there is no app for that then my business is dead. That’s not okay. This is an example of how to do a good review, and by good I mean authentic!
