Egg Nog is a drink which is a Christmas tradition, made of heavy cream, sugar and egg yolks for a traditional flavour and richness.
These days you can purchase ready-made Egg Nog in the stores, but some of us prefer to get in the kitchen and make our own. This is a recipe I’ve used for quite some time, I hope you enjoy it!
Traditional Egg Nog Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
- 4 cups milk
- 1- 1/3 cups sugar
- 12 large egg yolks
- 1 cup chilled heavy cream
- Grated nutmeg
PREPARATION
- Whisk milk and sugar over medium heat for 1 to 2 minutes until sugar is dissolved.
- Whisk egg yolks in a large bowl.
- Once finished pour hot mixture into yolks while whisking constantly.
- Once combined return mixture to pan on low heat until it thickens, approximately 20 minutes. Remember to stir often.
- Set aside and allow to cool.
- Stir in cream and nutmeg and refrigerate before serving.
- Pour into 6 mugs and garnish with nutmeg.
