If you’re anything like me, you love taking GREAT photos of those moments in life you want to remember. I seek out ways to try to hold onto the memories FOREVER and the most effective way I’ve found is by photos. I still hold onto childhood memories from my photo albums, those photos can pull me back in time with just a glance. The difficult thing these days can be choosing a camera which can suit your needs…BUT also suit your knowledge base. There are so many choices and I hope to help you narrow it down with my reviews. I’m no expert…but after years of learning photography and being a daily user I hope I can provide some insight.
Last summer I told you all about my experience using the Fuji X-A2 camera and today I’m jazzed to tell you about another choice from Fuji which should be on your list…in comes tthe FUJIFILM FinePix XP80 Waterproof Camera.
FujiFilm FinePix XP80 Waterproof Camera Review
First let’s look at how FujiFilm describes the camera:
Capture and share extreme scenes in places a tablet or smartphone can’t go and optically zoom in tight – even for movies. This is our toughest camera yet for extreme weather protection in extreme places, whether sea, sand, snow or time with kids. The FinePix XP80 rugged digital camera is waterproof to 50ft./15m, shockproof from 5.8ft./1.75m, freezeproof to 14°F/-10°C, dustproof** and features a 16.4MP CMOS sensor with a 28-140mm 5x optical zoom lens, Wi-Fi® connectivity for one touch transfer to smartphones and tablets as well as remote capture. It also shoots full HD movies at 1080P, even underwater!
Look and Feel:
The FujiFilm FinePix XP80 is lightweight in the hand, yet feels durable. The grip on the front of the camera and the thumb rest on the back of the camera ensure a firm grasp of the camera. If you are using one of your hands for a sport or for swimming, these grips aid in one-handed shooting.
My FAV 2 Features
With so many cameras on the market, this waterproof camera has 2 features which I think truly make it stand out:
Easy photo transfer – Take the XP80 everywhere your smartphone or tablet can’t go and still share just as easily! A single push of the Wi-Fi button transfers photos to your smartphone or tablet without having to enter an ID or password, allowing you to share photos with friends or upload to social media.
Wireless remote shooting – Remotely shooting photos from your smartphone or tablet allows you to adjust zoom settings or switch to movie recording, making it a particularly useful feature when shooting wildlife that is difficult to approach or in tough wilderness conditions.
Auto Mode
Recently I had the opportunity to use this camera while were were at a beach in Aruba, we swam with it and captured the following unedited photo on Auto Mode. Look at that wave coming in!
The benefit of this waterproof camera on the Auto setting is there’s almost not thought involved for the photographer. The camera has the ability to recognize the scene and apply the appropriate setting.
This is a poolside selfie, the camera actually recognizes that it’s a face and changes the setting to allow for the best shot.
Underwater Performance – Auto
FujiFilm’s underwater modes are designed to optimize image capture underwater and you can see in this photo the translucent fish were captured! These babies were tiny and quickly moving between our feet as I took the shot. I’m impressed with the outcome given the situation. This camera is waterproof up to 50ft (15m) so there’s plenty of exploring one can do!
Again this was a moving underwater shot, everyone wave hello to Brad!
Advanced Filter Mode
The images below were all taken in one of the Advanced Filter Modes. These are really fun, just turn the main dial to Adv. and you’ll be given a series of choices. If you go through the options you will see several filters and the the colour choices, blue and green and being two.
This poolside shot was taken in Florida with my friend Stacey from This Lil Piglet. We were taking some time to relax and I was playing with the camera. This was taken on the Toy Camera setting, it darkens the edges of the photo.
Next up was the advanced setting with the green colour filter which removes all except the green in the image.
This is the sketch function which is like a pencil drawing, this is very cool for portraits.
Isn’t this photo of the palm tree neat, I love the movement of the leaves and yet it wasn’t windy at all.
There are far too many features on this camera to list in just this review, feel free to head over the FujiFilm website to see more. My friend Stacey at This Lil Piglet also did a review which included this video…I wanted to share it so you all can see the capabilities.
This is a fine camera! It far surpassed my expectations and I’d highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for an underwater camera.
