When Brad and I were planning our week away in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic we knew we wanted to spend time off of the all inclusive resort on an excursion. While I was searching I can upon the Dr Fish Ocean Spa Excursion from Punta Cana and as I read the description I got excited. I’d never seen an excursion like this one which is much more like a spa experience than others we had looked at.
Check out this description of the Dr Fish excursion and tell me you wouldn’t like to celebrate your anniversary on this excursion:
This unique 3 hour excursion is designed to provide extreme relaxation in a very exclusive setting. This double deck boat, designed to be a sailing spa, has restricted capacity in order to provide personalized attention. Let us get you involved in bio-pilates exercises while you cruise the calm and colorful waters of Punta Cana.
To be completely transparent, I hesitated booking. I was searching and couldn’t see as many reviews as I’d like to make me jump at this excursion right away. I’m a firm believer in doing your research when booking an excursion because there’s so much opportunity for disappointment.
We like to book our excursions before we travel for a few reasons:
- to make sure we get the excursions we want before they sell out
- get a discounted price because they buy in bulk
- hand-picked companies who are vetted so the level of service is assured
I chose to contact my peeps at tripcentral.ca and talk it through with them. They pointed out that they partner with Viator (whom I’d book through) and although it was a new addition…it’s a very popular excursion with good reviews. Talking to someone directly and weighing it out helped me to make my decision, thanks to the personal service at tripcentral.ca once again.
Before we left for our trip, I had printed out our excursion confirmation information and I was glad I did. There on the print out it instructed me to phone in the day before to arrange our transportation and when I did, I was told a different time of day than was on the print out. No worries we’d be ready!
We were picked up in an open-air bus with other attendees from other resorts. Along the drive the bus pulled over and the driver approached Brad and I saying he only had 1 of us confirmed for the day and we’d have to get off the bus. Thankfully I had the printed receipt with us which clearly showed we had purchased the package for 2 adults. The gentleman was gracious, apologized and we were once again on our way.
We arrived at a beach side area and were split into groups of 8-10 by coloured wristbands. We filled in a safety waiver and then started our excursion by having some foot exfoliation by the Garra Rufa fish. OH.MY.GOSH this feels WEIRD!!
It’s like little vibrations all over your feet. Brad and I shared a foot tank and we howled in laughter as ALL of the fish flew over to his feet instead of mine.
Once we were finished having our Dr Fish foot treatment done we headed onto a fabulous double-decker boat where we enjoyed a bio-pilates class, massage, detoxification by foot soak, body scrub, lounging in the ocean on rafts and an incredible lunch on a floating dock.
The staff was very attentive and welcoming. We felt pampered all day and utterly relaxed by the time we arrived back to the dock.

The fish would over eat on my feet, lol they are so dry. Good thing you brought along your receipt! Especially along the drive they pull over and tell you to get out!
I noticed that you were wearing a VIP lanyard as were several others in the background. How do you get to be VIP status? Does it ensure that you are in a smaller group? Or was this just because you were a travel reviewer?
Ah those weren’t really VIP lanyards…they were from our hotel and everyone got them
