Bahia Principe Sian Ka’an, Adults Only All Inclusive Resort

Share Button

Winter in Canada can be a drag…it seems to stretch into eternity and often we are found searching the internet for an amazing All Inclusive resort where we can bask in the sun! This year Brad and I found a fantastic deal for a week long stay at Bahia Principe Sian Ka’an Adults Only All Inclusive Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Good friends of ours were heading there and we quickly did some research to see if we liked the resort enough to book. It was only 2 weeks out and so we had to know that we’d love the resort before committing so it was a fast process. Thankfully we had stayed at the Bahia Principe Punta Cana All Inclusive resort in Dominican Republic so we knew the hotel chain and the level of service. The difference with Sian Ka’an is that it is part of their Luxury line of resorts and it is adults only….I call that a WIN!!

There is so much to tell you..let me begin by saying the resort, the staff, the food and activities far exceeded our expectations. I’ll do my best to break it down for you here but just know that you will not be disappointed!

Arrival at Bahia Principe Sian Ka’an

Sian Ka’an is located in the Riviera Maya which is approximately 70km from Cancun airport. We found our resort representatives easily at the airport and boarded the shuttle which was included in our fare. There were a few stops to drop people at other hotels along the way so it took about an hour and a half to arrive.

Check in at Sian Ka’an was a breeze, we were lucky there was only one other couple in front of us so it didn’t take much time. We enjoyed a welcome drink and a cool towel.

We chose the least expensive room category for our stay and it far exceeded anything we may have expected when we booked the entry-level room. We were in Villa 22B, room 42203 which is ground level with a beautiful balcony view of the pool.

This is the Junior Suite which has:

  • one King bed
  • a sitting area
  • mini fridge with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (restocked daily) Tip: We left a note letting them know what soft drinks we enjoyed and the next day we found there were more of those in the fridge!
  • bathroom with shower, hairdryer and bathroom products
  • airconditioning
  • TV
  • wifi
  • safe
  • umbrella
  • balcony

Luxury Services

  • Butler services
  • Access to all resorts on the Bahia Property – Akumel, Tulum and Coba. Including restaurants/buffets
  • Top shelf alcohol
  • 24 hour room service
  • 1 hr/day paddle surf, kayaks, tennis
  • Unlimited a la carte dining

Keep in mind that Butler Services are available upon request….we asked for a mattress topper which was BLISS and also the aromatherapy which was lovely. It’s an essential oil unit that the Butler brings to your room and smells heavenly.

I will note that the room could get musty smelling at times. Being in a jungle we weren’t surprised by this and the air conditioning and the aromatherapy took care of it.

The Pools

Sian Ka’an has 3 pools in the main area and one which is often missed. We lovingly called that one the “quiet zen pool” which is located in the block of rooms to the right of the main lobby.

This is the pool directly outside of our room…just steps away. We didin’t have any issues finding chairs and the staff were always on hand, with the bar being located right beside the pool. I warn you now you’re not going to want to leave here! There is always plenty of shade to find…one of the benefits of being at a resort located in the jungle. Tip: bring a large thermal cup for your drinks

The pool shown above is the “quiet zen pool” how GORGEOUS is that!! This pool has quiet music playing, a bar and washrooms nearby and plenty of chairs. Total Luxury!

We also had the ability to use the pools at all of the resorts on property and one of our favourites was the infinity pool located in the adults only area of the Akumel resort.

With the bar, washrooms, buffet and this incredible pool overlooking the beach….we instantly fell in love.

And at each pool you can expect amazing service and some treats!

The Beach

Bahia Principe Sian Ka’an Adults Only All Inclusive Resort is actually set back from the beach, in the jungle. Not to worry though, there is a fantastic trolly system that takes you wherever you want to go between the 4 hotels on site. when staying at Sian Ka’an you have access to the beaches and there is even a private adult-only section for Sian Ka’an guests.

The water is crystal clear and the sand is gorgeous. There are plenty of lounge chairs and shady spots available. We would leave Sian Ka’an after breakfast at about 9:30am, hop on a shuttle and there were always plenty of chairs available. Don’t worry about towels, when you arrive at check-in you’ll be given cards to exchange for beach towels. There are kiosks for this right on the beach.

At the beaches you’ll find washrooms and restaurants or buffets nearby along with a fantastic bar with top shelf choices. There are also servers who tend to you when you are at your chairs. At the Sian Ka’an beach there is a pier where you can even find yoga, activities and shows taking place! We were so impressed!

The Restaurants

One of the most glaring differences between the standard Bahia resorts and the Luxury collection is the quality and variety of the food. The Yalku buffet at Sian Ka’an is over the top amazing. The staff are attentive and actually remembered us at each meal. The atmosphere is lovely, there are so many windows looking out at the jungle and don’t worry if you have dietary needs, they’ve got you covered.

There is also the Poolside restaurant at Sian Ka’an which is located at the middle pool. There you will find a menu of international choices in a very relaxed setting.

Remember that you have unlimited a la carte restaurant dining available and I strongly suggest you book your dining with the concierge when you arrive at the resort. The choices seem endles…from Italian, Brazillian, Seafood, Mexican to Gourmet restaurants any palate can be satisfied.

Activities

At Sian Ka’an there are activities planned throughout the day at the pool, on the beach or in the lobby. We loved going to the lobby shows each evening and don’t be fooled by the chilled out atmosphere of the place…it comes ALIVE! The entertainers are pros and super good at what they do. We found ourselves laughing our heads off at comedians and gasping at the acrobats! Make sure you take the time to catch a show or two either at Sian Ka’an or in the theatres at the other three hotels.

We knew we would be golfing when we travelled here, The Riviera Maya Golf Club is an 18 hole course that is a treat to the eye. There are cenotes right on the course and frankly it’s money well spent both for the quality of the golf course and the landscape.

This is just a taste of what our week at Sian Ka’an was like, frankly it would take me DAYS to share it all with you. I can happily recommend this resort to any of my friends who are looking for an all-inclusive vacation where you’ll be treated to luxury food, location and service.

Can you talk some about how to handle being sober at an all-inclusive resort? We have a favorite all-inclusive resort in Mexico but we haven’t been there since we quit drinking. I’m concerned that I could be setting myself up for a week of Diet Coke and bottled water. Did you get any beverages besides Diet Coke and bottled water? Were you able to communicate sufficiently with the staff to get an interesting mocktail or an iced tea or basically anything non-sugar, non-caffeine? How did that go for you? I would be really interested in hearing about this aspect of the all-inclusive experience.

Sounds heavenly Julie. Thanks for your review and all your tips. After this past winter, we are seriously considering a getaway in early 2020.

As a fellow Canadian, we also like to vacation in warm climates 2, 3 or even 4 times each winter! If you get a chance, check out Roatan, an island off the coast of Honduras. We have been there 4 times, staying at the Henry Morgan resort on West Bay Beach. The beach and water are stunning, and fantastic snorkeling is right off the beach! Also, if you are not too picky, we have been to Memories Caribe in Cayo Coco Cuba 4 times, (booked again for Jan. 2020) It is an adults only, and also has a stunning beach.
