Ask anyone who is in a 12 Step Program seeking recovery from addictions and we will all tell you that we’d never see the day when the doors to 12 Step Meetings closed. It’s unimaginable for so many of us because we attribute a large portion of our recovery to attending the in person meetings.
Walking into my first meeting was a terrifying experience…it took a true belief that I would kill myself to step past the fear into the unknown into that meeting. As I arrived I was greeted with a friendly smile and gentle words of welcome. Sitting in the church basement I heard people speaking about the EXACT emotions I battled. The more these people spoke, the more I knew I needed to be there to learn how to get what they had in life. These people weren’t shocked as I shared things…instead they related. In a way these meetings have become home for me and not having them for a few days as the doors closed left me with a gaping hole in my 10 year long recovery.
We are living in uncertain times, pioneering so many things as we wait for the dangers of COVID-19 to pass. As the meetings were being cancelled around the world, thankfully I saw meetings being launched online.
There are many, many different programs and styles of meetings but today I want to quickly list some that I’m going to. If your 12 Step program isn’t listed just Google it with “online meeting” and you’ll find what you’re looking for.
All you need to participate is an internet connection, a device and yourself. You can have your video and sound on or off at your own discretion and put in a screen name of your choice to protect your anonymity.

One platform for meetings which I’ve used for YEARS is In the Rooms. This is an online addiction and recovery platform which hosts meetings from ALL kinds of 12 Step Programs. In the Rooms is offered as a website or as an app.
In the Rooms also hosts meetings from other recovery programs for many different topics. To use it you simply create an account and GO.
Alcoholics Anonymous Online Meetings
“Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.“
Alcoholics Anonymous Online Meetings are available on many platforms including Zoom, Google Hangouts, Bluejeans and conference calls. The listing is massive and can be found in its entirety on the AA Online Meeting Directory. You can search by your location and find a local meeting or attend one from around the world.
Narcotics Anonymous Online Meetings
“Narcotics Anonymous is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. We are recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. This is a program of complete abstinence from all drugs. There is only one requirement for membership, the desire to stop using.
We suggest that you keep an open mind and give yourself a break. Our program is a set of principles written so simply that we can follow them in our daily lives. The most important thing about them is that they work“.
Narcotics Anonymous Online Meetings are available on many platforms including Zoom, Bluejeans, Skype and phone. Meetings are available from around the world and you can see a full listing on the NA Virtual Meeting directory.
