Last week my husband and I enjoyed a much needed couples holiday! Yes that means we kissed our 2 lovely daughters buh-bye and headed out for a week together. During our stay in Cancun, Mexico we stayed at Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort which is located just 10 minutes drive from Cancun airport.
Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort has 4 sections from which you can choose to stay. There is the Sunrise, the Moon Grand, the Golf Villas and Nizuc which is where we stayed. As a guest of Moon Palace, you can use all of the sections however you’d like. Sunrise is more of an upbeat place, with the night club, connecting family suites and the massive kids club it was busier than Nizuc. The Moon Grand has a very relaxed atmosphere and it’s located in close proximity to the 27-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course. The Golf Villas are located directly on the grounds of the golf course for the golf lover.
We booked our room at Nizuc after browsing the options for a very long time, the list of room choices is large so get a cup of coffee as you begin to plan your vacation. In the end we chose a Superior Ocean Front Deluxe room and we weren’t disappointed!
After taking our airport shuttle to Moon Palace, we were greeted with cool towels and brought to check in which took all of 5 minutes. Next we were escorted to the desk where we were served a lovely drink and our $1500 resort credits were applied to our resort account. We could use these credits in the Spa, the gift shops, special dinners, Dolphinarium or to play golf.
Once we’d booked a couples massage, a gracious porter took us to our room. The resort is laid out with the main building housing the buffet and a la carte restaurants. You’ll also find the gift shops, gym, lobby and lounge there. Spreading out from the main building to the beach are the accommodations which surround the gorgeous pool and decks. There are paths (both covered and not) which meander all around the outdoor areas so if you’re caught in one of the brief rains, no worries.
Superior Ocean Front Deluxe Room at Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort
As I mentioned above, the Superior Ocean Front Deluxe Room exceeded our expectations.
Walking into the room I felt the cool air against my skin and sunlight from the ocean front window swathed the room. The air conditioning is a nice contrast to the humid heat outdoors. The decor of the room is updated, it’s well laid out and has plenty of storage in a large dresser, side tables and closet. The writing desk was used often, with two chairs and outlets nearby it was a handy space to get some work in or enjoy breakfast from the 24 hour room service.
The double whirlpool deserves it’s own review really, it’s simply bliss to unwind after a long day exploring in this puppy! Palace resorts provides Chi hair and body products, 2 robes and nice, thick towels to complete the experience of relaxation. The mirror beside the tub has recessed lighting, adding a warm, yellow tone which my husband really liked.
A king sized bed awaits you when you choose this room! With 4 pillows, a nice mattress and soft bedding this was one of my favourite aspects of the room. We sprawled out on the bed at one point, noting all of the excess space which wasn’t being taken up by the kids or the dogs….ode to couples travel!
The balcony of the room is small but well appointed with 2 chairs and a footstool. We had views of the Caribbean at it’s best!
These rooms come with a fully stocked mini-bar of premium alcohol and a bottle of wine to greet you when you arrive. I personally returned the wine and didn’t indulge in the mini-bar but did enjoy the bottled water, juice and pop in the fridge.
The room also has an amazing walk in shower, toilet and separate area for the sink, hairdryer and hair straightener. They’ve thought of everything to make your life easier! You can get food 24 hours a day to your room, have your laundry done and well…pretty much anything you can think of is possible at Moon Palace!
Stay tuned for more on our trip to Cancun, I have SO much to share!
